Executive Advisory Committee
The Executive Advisory Committee meets annually to guide development of IGSB's future goals and helps set the research direction of the Institute. As part of this process, Committee Members were responsible for evaluating the suitability of the IGSB's initial cohort of incoming Fellows. IGSB External Advisory Committee Members reflect the Institute's cross-disciplinary focus in basic and clinical research at The University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory.
The current IGSB Executive Advisory Committee includes:
Ian Foster, Computation Institute Director, the Arthur Holly Compton Distinguished Service Professor of Computer Science, The University of Chicago, Chan Soon-Shiong Scholar and Associate Director of the Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory. His research in computer science has led to the development of the Globus Toolkit open source Grid software, widely used in business and science. [homepage]
T. Conrad Gilliam, Marjorie I. and Bernard A. Mitchell Professor and Chairman of Human Genetics, The University of Chicago, studies the genetic determinants of common heritable disorders, including neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and autism, as well as other multifactorial disorders such as celiac disease and cardiovascular disorders. Michelle Le Beau, Professor of Medicine, The University of Chicago; Director, The University of Chicago Cancer Research Center; Director, Cancer Cytogenetics Laboratory. Her research focuses on the molecular analysis of the recurring chromosomal abnormalities in human leukemias and lymphomas, correlating specific abnormalities with morphological and clinical features and the development of risk-adapted therapy. Neil Shubin, Robert R. Bensley Professor, Chair and Associate Dean of Organismal Biology & Anatomy and Evolutionary Biology, The University of Chicago; Provost, The Field Museum. He researches the evolutionary origin of anatomical features of animals. His most recent discovery, Tiktaalik roseae, has been dubbed the "missing link" between fish and land animals. [homepage]
Rick Stevens, Professor in Department of Computer Science, The University of Chicago and Associate Laboratory Director for Computational and Life Sciences at Argonne National Laboratory, is interested in the development of innovative tools and techniques that enable computational scientists to solve large-scale problems more effectively on the most advanced high-performance computers.
